What makes an organism alive?
In this section you will learn the characteristics that make an organism alive. You may ask why you need to know these characteristics. According to my biology textbook, “Biology is the scientific study of living things.” In order to be able to study these living things, we must be able to determine what things are living and what things aren’t living. For an organism to be considered living they must:
· Be able to reproduce
· Must be organized
· Have the ability to grow and develop
· Be able to respond to stimuli in the environment
· Have the capabilities to use and obtain energy
